LDG Lloyds Civils Contracted on One of Ireland’s Largest GFRP Anchor Sites.

LDG Lloyds Civils were appointed by FK Lowry to install 91 temporary tie back anchors on their One Wilton, Dublin development.

One Wilton is a 150,000 sq ft office development being constructed on the site of the former Fitzwilton House, between Baggot Street and Leeson Street bridges. Owned and managed by IPUT, one of Irelands largest property funds, the main contractor is Sisk and the project has been designed by ARUP.

The piling scheme, valued at €1.5M, involved the design and installation of 273 linear metres of Hard/Firm Secant Bored Pile Wall for a Double Storey Basement. FK Lowry mobilised their Soilmec SR-75 and SR-95 dual purpose piling rigs to undertake 900mm diameter primary piles to depths of up to 10m and founding into the underlying Limestone
Bedrock. 700mm/600mm Secondary Piles were then installed to depths of up to 16m - including up to 6m of rock socket.

FK Lowry employed Cassidy Geotechnical to design the tie back anchors through the wall to aid in the excavation of the basement. The ground conditions were described as made ground’ overlying stiff Dublin Black Boulder clay, before moderately strong to strong Limestone Bedrock was encountered.

LDG Lloyds Civils installed and tested a preliminary Multi Strand Glass Fibre Reinforced Polymer anchor prior to the main works to confirm the design, installing temporary anchors of up to 16m in length.

LDG Lloyds Civils mobilised its Casagrande C6 XP2 drill rig along with a new Hutte Hydraulic Double Acting Manipulator. This innovative Hydraulic Manipulator eliminates manual handling of rods and casing during drilling, providing a safer working environment for LDG staff.

This installation, one of the largest of GFRP anchors in Ireland, plus head blocks and all associated testing, took 10 weeks and was delivered on time and on budget.

“It was a pleasure to work with LDG Lloyds Civils on the One Wilton Project. Despite this being a challenging project with limited space due to the demolition and piling works ongoing, the site team displayed high standards of safety. We and LDG Lloyds Civils worked collaboratively with the principal contractor to ensure excellent lines of communication were maintained throughout the works. We would highly recommend LDG Lloyds Civils on future
projects”.
